from hard to soft edges

Looking for ways to paint leaves with a distinct line pattern.

Not happy with the flow of the patterned marks, I decided to suggest the pattern with just a few marks:

Still not convinced, I keep trying paint on different leaves of the same kind. I left many of them unfinished as I stared putting almost all my creative time into Independent Research Project:

Aside of a process of painting more defined edges, where I was focusing on mixing many values of blue, I also started playing with loose brushstrokes (which only refer to photos of actual leaves slightly). These brought results I was finally happy with and were the ones I enjoyed creating the most:
